My father always told me, when I was younger, never to turn down people if they asked me to dance. He said, "That could be the next Bill Gates," and you also never want to hurt people's feelings. I think I took what he said even further and opened my heart and smile to every person in my life and carry that with me especially when I perform.
Yesterday, my eyes were truly opened. I have been through a lot the past months and was getting hard on myself, feeling as if I wasn't accomplishing enough or doing enough. I was getting more self-conscious even. Someone told me yesterday, "I just have to tell you, that when you walk into a room, you instantly make me smile, even if I am in a bad mood or anything." "You have this special ability to do that." When I heard those words, a tear came to my eye...here me...who wasn't feeling in the best mood herself...was making others smile. His words made me realize a lot.
After that I worked as an entertainer for a sweet 16 party. I hyped up the crowd and led all the fun dances like the YMCA, Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Chicken Dance, Follow the Leader etc. and led fun games. This wasn't a typical sweet 16 party though. The kids had autism. They were some of the most beautiful people I have ever had a chance to meet. They were so happy and followed every move I made! They were soooo excited and full of life. The best part was when they would whisper into my ear, "I'm having so much fun" and when they gave me a huge hug at the end and said Thank you! I danced with the birthday boy all night long and if I would go on to the next song and go on for a minute, he would want to dance with me again. It was so nice to see that his sweet 16 party was such a success. I worked with DJ AD and Richard Brown. We are the REMIX NETWORK and I think we created something really special last night.
This is what I love in life more than anything, using what God gave me to help others. Even if I am down or in a bad mood, helping people lifts me up. I hope that all my life, I can continue to share my talents to make my mark in people's lives. These kids opened my eyes to see life in a huge way and appreciate even the smallest things.
