I Now Understand

Life has been crazier than ever lately. I took a risk and moved away from Princeton, NJ, a place I can now call one of my homes. I lived there for six years and developed family, friendships, and many connections. I had steady jobs and people knew me.

I have now moved to Hoboken, NJ to pursue my dreams. I wanted to be closer to New York to pursue my acting dreams, but also stay in New Jersey to continue to pursue my singing dreams and work with my band here. I have to admit, it has been one of the hardest things I have ever done.

I am the type of person who is always working on something, always wanting to accomplish the next thing. I figured when I moved here, I would waitress on the side and audition, but it is way harder than I thought. I must have applied to at least 7 restaurants and everyone of them has said, "You need at least two to five years waitressing experience!" or "Aww, you seem sweet." Who would have thought instead of working teaching or working as a Disney princess, I should have been waitressing? Also I have realized I am really honest and no one wants to hire someone, who if they land an audition, will leave their business.

In all this, I have realized a lot though. I now understand that no job is small. Every job requires time, training, and a strong work ethic. It requires a passion toward the employer's product. I have learned that it doesn't cut it to be "sweet" in this world either. My resume is filled with teaching, and working well with kids, but that doesn't make someone believe that I can serve food or be a great employee for their company.

Hoboken is beautiful though and I get to see all different types of people everyday and am a hop, skip, and a jump away from New York.

It is so weird to be in a place where I know no one, except my roomate. I know in time, I will grow to know the community and I am sure the right job will come along...patience is a virtue, right? But for now, I will continue to explore independently and keep on pushing towards my goals.
